We will receive you at Guwahati Airport and will take you straight to Shillong, located between Surma and Brahmaputra valleys which is a nearly 4-hour drive from Guwahati. Shillong, a beautiful hill station also known as the “Scotland of the East” is the capital city of Meghalaya and one of the major tourist destinations of East India. On the way, we will stop at Umiam Lake, where you can enjoy some delicious momos with the scenic beauty of the lake. After reaching Shillong, we will check you in to your hotel, where you will stay for the night. If time permits, we will take you to local sightseeing of the city. Overnight at Shillong.
Shillong Sightseeing. Shillong is famous for its clean, steep streets, beautiful lakes, parks, and of course, the breathtaking waterfalls.
We will take you out on a local sightseeing tour: Mawphlang Sacred Forest – Being home to Meghalaya’s most renowned forest groves, this forest is nature’s museum which boasts a wide variety of unique flora – aroids, ferns, orchids and fauna.
Mawjymbuin Caves / Mawjyngbuin caves – just 2.5 km away from Mawsynram bus station, this is a 209-meter-high cave full of natural wonder. This cave is made of calcareous sandstone, which, due to weathering, forms several stalagmites that are a wonder to behold.
Mawsmai falls: It is a seven-segmented waterfall and termed as the fourth highest waterfall in India (1,035 ft).
Khreng Khreng – Situated just 4 km from the Mawsynram village, this is a popular viewpoint that offers wonderful scenic beauty and stunning views of Lum Iawpaw hill, Umngi River, and Rit Syntein. This is the best place to behold a spectacular sunset.
David Scott Trail trek – Originally founded by a British officer in the early 1800s, this is a 16 km trekking route that offers stunning beauty of forest, terrain, and waterfalls of East Khasi Hills.
Elephanta Falls – It is located at 12 km on the outskirts of the capital city, Shillong. The mountain stream descends through two successive falls set in dells of fern-covered rocks. At a short distance beyond the falls, there are two smaller falls, which are none the less beautiful and captivating; these are the “Wei laplam Falls” and the “Wir phang Falls.” A well-paved footpath and a small wooden bridge facilitate access to these falls.
Shillong Peak – Shillong Peak is the highest peak of Shillong. It is an ideal picnic spot located 10 km away from the city. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, the Himalayas, its waterfalls, as well as the Bangladesh plains. A telescope is available for tourists to get a bird’s-eye view. In the evening, the city lights below appear like a star-studded abyss.
Spread Eagle Falls – Located within the Shillong cantonment, on the outskirts of the city, lies a sparkling waterfall that looks like an eagle with wings spread. Hence the name Spread Eagle Falls; the falls are locally known as Umkaliar or the falls into which Ka Liar slipped. It is a soothing setting amidst the calmness of nature – a real treat to the eyes.
Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum – For those interested in ethnic tribal culture and tradition, this government museum under the Art and Culture Department offers insights into the lifestyle of the people. This museum is in the State Central Library complex, where monuments for the great patriots of the state are erected beside the statues of Smt. Indira Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Golf Course – Shillong Golf Course is one of the oldest and best natural golf courses in the world, and is considered to be the “Gleneagle of the East” by the United States Golf Association and Museum. The golf course provides a panoramic view. It was set in an undulating valley covered with thick groves of pine and rhododendron trees at an altitude of 5200 ft in 1898 as a 9 (nine) hole course and later converted into an 18 (eighteen) hole course in 1924 by Captain Jackson and C. K. Rhodes.
Lastly, visit the Catholic Cathedral Church – In the heart of the city, there stands a beautiful cathedral of Roman Catholics dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. Evening free for leisure to relax or to explore Shillong Market. Overnight at Shillong.
Excursion to Jowai. One of the most popular tourist places in Jowai is Krang Shuri – one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls. Nestled in the picture-perfect mountains, this scenic waterfall is a sight to behold. Reaching this waterfall is an adventure in itself, as you will have to hike down a mountain to reach the base of this waterfall. Overnight at Shillong
Shillong to Mawlynnong & Dawki Sightseeing, travel from Dawki to Cherrapunji. We will take you Asia’s cleanest village Mawlynnong. Mawlynnong is famous for its cleanliness and living root bridges. We will further take you to Dawki, about 20 kilometres south of Mawlynnong. Dawki lies at the border of India and Bangladesh and is famous for a suspension bridge over the Umngot River (commonly known as Dawki Bridge) constructed by the British in 1932. Boating is also available on the Umngot River, the most transparent river between the months of November and February. During this time, the water is so clear that you can see the riverbed while boating on it. After sightseeing at Dawki, we will take you to Cherrapunji. Overnight at Cherrapunji.
Cherrapunji Sightseeing. Our next day would be sightseeing at the wettest place on the Earth, Cherrapunji, which holds the all-time record for the most rainfall in a calendar month and in a year. The stay will be at Cherrapunji. Overnight at Cherrapunji.
Cherrapunji is famous for living root bridges, Nohkalikai waterfalls, Seven Sister waterfalls, and the Mawsmai caves. The stay will be at Cherrapunji.
After completing our sightseeing at Cherrapunji, we will head towards Kaziranga, the world heritage site situated in Assam. It would be around a 370-kilometre drive from Cherrapunji, and it is estimated to take around 9 hours. So, it would be a complete journey day with few stops to enjoy the local beauties and cuisine of Assam and Meghalaya. We will stay in Kaziranga.
The next day we will take you out for sightseeing at Kaziranga. Kaziranga National Park is itself an exquisite beauty to watch with a list of different species of flora and fauna. Of course, no need to mention the gentle, beautiful creature for which Kaziranga is famous all over the world, the one horned rhinoceros. So, it will be a complete enjoyment day of sightseeing at Kaziranga National Park, including jeep safaris, a visit to the orchid garden and Assam’s famous tea gardens, ethnic villages, Assamese localities, etc.The stay will be at Kaziranga.
Transfer to Guwahati airport.
